One person has died following a two-alarm fire in the city's east end early Monday morning.

Firefighters said the fire began in the bedroom of a third floor apartment above a store on Danforth Avenue, just east of Greenwood Avenue, at approximately 2:15 a.m.

Crews were able to extinguish the blaze within 25 minutes, but an individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials have not publicly identified the deceased, nor have they provided an approximate age or gender.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has been called to investigate.
