A 73-year-old Toronto city councillor has received an official, public invite to rapper Drake's annual music festival.

Early Friday morning, Toronto-born rapper Drake posted a photo of Coun. Norm Kelly on Instagram with the caption, "6th Annual OVO Fest this weekend. @welcomeovo."

The invitation came days after Kelly took to Twitter to stand up for Drake, who is in the middle of a heated online feud with rapper Meek Mill.

Kelly and Drake have become unlikely allies after Kelly called Drake a "Canadian hero."

The feud began when Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill asked his 4.97 million Twitter followers to stop comparing him to Drake, in a message posted last week.

"He don't write his own raps! That's why he ain't tweet my album and he on it because he know we found out," Meek Mill wrote.

Coming to Drake's defence, Kelly replied to the message, "You're no longer welcome in Toronto."

Meek Mill responded to the councillor, asking "Aye white man @norm what gives you the audacity to tell me I can't come somewhere over me voicing my opinion! U sound like a thug lol."

Kelly wrote back: "Aye American @MeekMill. Didn't say don't come. Just puzzled why you'd diss a Canadian hero a week before coming to his city."

Following the exchange, Kelly wrote to his 74,500 Twitter followers that he would be taking a two-week break from the social media site to "charge up," the name of a new Drake song.

The next day, Drake published a song called "Back to Back," which slams Meek Mill for being on tour with his fiance Nicki Minaj.

"Is that a world tour or your girl's tour?" Drake asks at the beginning of the song.

On Wednesday, Kelly broke his promise of a Twitter break to tweet a photo of himself, standing back-to-back with a mirror image of himself.

Meek Mill performed at Toronto's Molson Canadian Amphitheatre on Tuesday, and was booed by fans, some sporting anti-Meek Mill T-shirts.

Drake will be hosting a two-day music festival, called OVO Fest, at the same venue starting Monday.
