OBERHOFEN, Switzerland -- The International Ski Federation has set Thursday when it will update on the cases of six Russian cross-country skiers disqualified from the Sochi Olympics for their part in a doping conspiracy.
The six, including two medallists , were banned from the Olympics for life this month by the IOC but are still eligible to race. As the sport's governing body, FIS must impose bans from competition but needs written verdicts from the IOC to process its cases.
FIS previously imposed interim bans on all six through October while the doping cases were pending.
FIS said on Saturday after a meeting of its ruling council that it will communicate "status of the cases" one day before the cross-country World Cup season opens in Ruka, Finland.
The athletes include Alexander Legkov, who won a gold and silver medal in Sochi, and three-time silver medallist Maxim Vylegzhanin.
An IOC disciplinary panel used evidence of coverups and tampering of samples which was first gathered last year by World Anti-Doping Agency investigator Richard McLaren.
In other business, President Gian Franco Kasper confirmed he would stand for re-election at the FIS Congress in May. Kasper has led the ski body since 1998 and will seek a sixth term.
Kosovo's ski federation is set to gain full FIS membership at the congress in Costa Navarino, Greece.
Jordan's application to be an associate member should also be ratified in May, FIS said.
