A man has been pronounced dead after being shot in front of a residence in Mississauga in broad daylight Monday evening.

The shooting happened on Bishopstoke Lane in the area of Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Road at around 7 p.m.

Peel police said a male victim was pronounced dead after neighbours heard shots ring out on the residential street.

Neighbours took to the street following the shooting and expressed shock that a murder could take place on a street they describe as being “quiet.”

Investigators said they are looking to speak with anyone who saw or heard anything at the time.

“We’re asking anyone who was in the area around that time to contact our homicide unit or if they’re not comfortable doing that to call Crime Stoppers,” Const. Harinder Sohi told CP24.

Sohi said police could not yet confirm reports that the victim was killed in a drive-by shooting.

The victim has not yet been identified, but a family friend at the scene described him as “a very kind-hearted person” who could “make anybody laugh.”

“He was in his early 20’s and was engaged to be married so you can imagine the magnitude of the shock when we all heard the news,” the friend told CP24.

No other injuries were reported in the shooting.

There is no information about possible suspects so far.
