A man was stabbed several times in the back after refusing to give a stranger any spare change, Toronto police said.

The incident happened at a parking lot at 41 Antrim Cres., located in the area of Kennedy Road and Highway 401, at approximately 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police said an unknown man approached the victim, who was standing near his vehicle in a parking lot. The victim, a 57-year-old, was asked for spare change. He turned away after telling the stranger he didn't have any change. Police say that’s when the victim was stabbed several times in the back. He was rushed to hospital, and is expected to recover from his injuries.

The suspect fled on foot, and was later seen in a dark-coloured SUV heading towards Kennedy Road. He has been described as a black man in his 20s, who was wearing dark clothing and a hooded sweatshirt at the time of the incident.
