A 40-year-old man was airlifted to a Toronto hospital with life-threatening injuries after a shooting at an apartment complex in Peterborough Monday evening.

Peterborough Lakefield Community Police say the incident happened in the Hunter Street East and Armour Road area just before 6 p.m. on Monday. A man was found in the second floor hallway of the apartment. He was rushed to Peterborough Regional Health Centre before being airlifted to a Toronto trauma unit.

In a statement on Monday, police said the man was shot following an "interaction" with three to four male suspects in the apartment building. Police say they may have fled the scene of the shooting in a 1983 or 1984 black Buick.
