A Newmarket man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the death of his two-year-old son.

York Regional Police say the boy was not breathing when they responded to a call for help at a home on Longford Drive in Newmarket on Thursday afternoon. He was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Mario Wint, 29, of Newmarket, was arrested on Saturday afternoon. He is scheduled to appear in a Newmarket court on Sunday.

While the investigation is ongoing, police don’t believe anyone else was involved in the child’s death.

Officials have not released a cause of death.
