One male is injured and his brother has died following a double stabbing in Brampton, according to police.

The incident occurred in a residential area on McGraw Avenue, in the area of Williams Parkway and Main Street North, at approximately 1 p.m. on Thursday.

Peel Regional Police Const. Fiona Thivierge said police arrived to find one person seriously injured and another without vital signs. Both were taken to hospital, where one of the victims succumbed to his injuries.

Police later said the second male’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.

One male suspect was arrested following the stabbing, and police said early on that they were looking for two more.

However, Peel police Const. Thomas Ruttan later said that the person they arrested “appears not to be related to this crime,” so police are once again looking for three people. He did not offer a description.

Much of McGraw Avenue has been cordoned off as police conduct their investigation, but the public is not at risk, according to Ruttan.

“This does not appear to be a random type act,” he said.
