OSHAWA, Ont. -- A former youth worker in Durham Region, east of Toronto, is facing sexual assault charges in connection with alleged incidents dating back 20 years.

It's alleged a man had "inappropriate sexual contact" with a boy over a two-year-period, starting in 1994 when the boy was eight.

Police say the alleged incidents happened in nearby Whitby, where the accused previously lived.

A 59-year-old man faces charges of sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

Police say the accused was a youth worker in the region for many years and while the charges are not connected to those activities, investigators want to ensure there are no other victims.
