A former NCAA basketball player who has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal drive-by shooting of a Scarborough woman was released on $100,000 bail on Wednesday.

Alwayne Bigby, 24, is one of two men charged in connection with the death of Andrea White. The mother of four was sitting in her garage with her daughter and several family friends when a white Land Rover SUV drove past her home on Forest Creek Pathway on April 12, just before 11 p.m.

Police say multiple shots were fired toward the Malvern home, and White, 33, was fatally struck by one of the bullets. She was helped back inside her home after the brazen shooting, but ultimately died of her injuries.

Police do not believe White was targeted.

Michael Davani, 21, has also been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting.

Bigby, a local basketball star from Toronto who has played in the NCAA as a guard at Northeastern University, is scheduled to appear in court again next month.
