A 17-year-old Brampton high school student has been arrested after a teen was stabbed on Friday afternoon.

A 16-year-old student of St. Edmund Campion Catholic Secondary School is being treated for stab wounds following the incident.

The school is located on Brisdale Drive near Sandalwood Parkway.

The 16-year-old sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a stabbing that occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m., police said.

The school was in lockdown as police investigated but has since moved to hold-and-secure, meaning students may leave their classrooms, but not the building. The doors of nearby schools were also locked as a precaution, but the hold-and-secures have since been lifted.

Police said that they're still looking for other possible suspects and witnesses.

"We know that there are witnesses that may have seen what happened or have information on why it happened, so we're hoping that those students do come forward and speak to our investigators," Peel Regional Police Sgt. George Tudos said at the scene.
