A 16-year-old is facing dangerous driving charges after slamming his SUV into a transformer box and then a garage early Saturday morning.

Police say the boy was travelling southbound on Golden Avenue in Markham when he lost control of the vehicle and drove through a fence. He first hit a transformer box, knocking out power in the area, then crashed into a garage.

The boy was driving alone and was not injured in the accident, police said. The estimated cost of the damage is still unknown.

The episode happened at about 2:20 a.m.

Police arrived on the scene shortly after and arrested the boy for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He is expected to appear in court in a few weeks, police say.
