Two early-morning collisions in North York sent a total of six people to hospital early Saturday morning.

The first incident happened near Keele Street and Wilson Avenue at around 5:20 a.m. and involved two vehicles.

According to the Toronto Paramedic Service, two people were transported to a trauma centre with serious injuries as a result, and two others were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Two injured near Allen Road and Sheppard Avenue

In a separate collision, two people were injured after a collision involving a car and a tractor trailer occurred near Allen Road and Sheppard Avenue at around 6 a.m.

One of the car’s occupants was rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital with life-threatening injuries after being extricated from the vehicle, while another was transported with serious injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

"One patient was trapped in the car in the passenger seat and we cut the door post out and were able to free him," District Chief Al Andrews told CP24 at the scene.

Andrews said it took 45 minutes to free one of the passengers during the rescue, which involved four fire trucks and 16 firefighters.

"His legs were pinned under the dash and he was in there pretty tight so it was a bit of a challenge," Andrews said.

The circumstances surrounding the collision are not known, but paramedics said a wheel ended up flying off the tractor trailer and may have struck a vehicle.

Allen Road is closed between Sheppard Avenue and Transit Road as police investigate.
