The last day of September will be cloudy with a few showers that are expected to end this afternoon. Environment Canada predicts the daytime high will be 22 C. The average high for late September is 17 C, the national weather agency says.

Expect delays heading west on sections of Highway 401, between Meadowvale Road and Bathurst Street. For commuters heading downtown on the Don Valley Parkway, traffic is building up between Finch Avenue East and Lawrence Avenue East.

Missing toddler found safe in cornfield

A two-year-old girl was found safe and sound on the edge of a cornfield Monday morning after she wandered away from a southwestern Ontario farm in Norwich, Ont. the night before. OPP Const. Larry Plummer said Brooklyn Honderich was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Vaughan man jailed in Cuba maintains innocence

A Canadian businessman jailed in Cuba on corruption-related charges maintains he's innocent and is determined to fight for his freedom, his son said Monday. The claims against his father Cy Tokmakjian, who owns the Ontario-based automotive company Tokmakjian Group, are "completely false," Raffi Tokmakjian told reporters. The 74-year-old has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

SPORTS

The Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Detroit Red Wings 3-0 in a pre-season game Monday night. The Leafs are off until Friday, when they'll play their final pre-season game.

The Toronto Argonauts' and the Toronto FC's next games are scheduled for Saturday.

The Raptors are in training camp this week, and will play their first pre-season game on Sunday in Vancouver, B.C.
