There will be a mix of sun and cloud today, with a 30 per cent chance of showers later this morning. Environment Canada says the daytime high will be 7 C, and temperatures will fall to low of 4 C Thursday night.

TRAFFIC

The eastbound Gardiner Expressway is moving slowly from Islington Avenue to Strachan Avenue, with the highest concentration of traffic between Windermere Avenue and Parkside Drive. Heading west, there is high volume on the Gardiner from Yonge Street to Strachan.

Further north, the eastbound Highway 401 is slow from Highway 427 to Yonge Street. Heading west, the 401 is slow from Meadowvale Road to Bathurst Street.

The southbound Highway 404 is moving slowly from Steeles Avenue down to the 401, with the highest congestion around the 401. Continuing south, the Don Valley Parkway is slow down to Eglinton Avenue.

Man handed life sentence after brutal stabbing death

A 25-year-old man was handed a life sentence in the violent stabbing death of another man in North York. Kimnarine Keshan Maharaj had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the 2013 homicide of Anthony Koko Chang. His son, Maurice Chang, described his father as a "giving and caring person" at Wednesday's sentencing. Police previously said a disagreement over a vehicle repair bill may have sparked the attack. Doug Ford considering run for Ontario PC leadership

Doug Ford is considering throwing his name in the race to become the next Ontario PC leader. Days after losing the mayoral race to John Tory, Ford expressed an interest in the position formerly held by Tim Hudak. "There's certain values that have fallen by the wayside, and we have to start focusing on attracting everyone to the party," he said. Hudak stepped down in June after the party's second consecutive election loss.

Tory says 'no' to U.S. late-night talk show appearances

Unlike his predecessor, mayor-elect John Tory says he isn't interested in heading south of the border to appear on a late-night television talk show. Tory says, despite having been approached by a number of late-night comics, including Jimmy Fallon, he doesn't plan on being a guest on a show. "(Being a mayor ) isn't about comedy and show business, it's about getting things done," he said Wednesday.

The Toronto Raptors beat the Atlanta Hawks 109-102 in the team's home opener Wednesday night. DeMar DeRozan reached a career-high 11 rebounds and added six steals to help the team to victory.
