MISSISSAUGA, Ont. -- Peel Regional Police say a 24-year-old Mississauga man faces charges after allegedly scuffling with an officer and fleeing police.

Const. Thomas Ruttan says it happened after police pulled over a suspected impaired driver (at Winston Churchill Boulevard near Erin Centre Boulevard) in Mississauga early Sunday morning.

Ruttan says there was a scuffle between the driver and the arresting officer, who attempted to pepper spray the suspect but got some of the spray on himself.

Initially police said the suspect tried to pepper spray an officer.

Ruttan says the suspect got back into his car and struck a police cruiser while leaving the scene.

He says there was a short chase, which was called off due to safety concerns, and the vehicle was later located at a home.

Fahad Abu-Risha faces charges including impaired driving, assault with intent to resist, flight from police, dangerous driving and failure to provide a breath sample.

It's not known when he'll appear in court to face the allegations.

The officer was treated by paramedics for minor injuries.
