The body of a 39-year-old Mississauga father who drowned while attempting to rescue his seven-year-old son has been located.

Police say Tomasz Gladkowski's body was found in Lake Huron Monday afternoon, approximately 150 metres from the shoreline. He went missing Sunday afternoon while attemptimg to rescue his young son, who was caught by a powerful undertow in the lake, near the mouth of Nine Mile River.

Police say Gladkowski and another man entered the water to rescue the boy. The man and Gladkowski's son were able to make it back to shore safely.

An air-and-water search was launched shortly after. The Canadian Coast Guard, the OPP Marine unit and a helicopter from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre assisted with the search.

Gladkwski's body was located at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Monday.
