Police said an elderly Scarborough man was found dead Tuesday in the Dorset Park neighbourhood, days after he wandered away from his home.

Jayaratnam Punnusamy, 84, was reported missing on May 22. His body was found beside railway tracks near a park off of Prudential Drive, located in the Lawrence Avenue East and Midland Avenue area, about 500 metres from his home.

According to police, Punnusamy had a range of health issues that made him vulnerable, including the onset of dementia, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Police had set up a command post Tuesday morning in a hydro field on the west side of Midland Avenue, north of Romulus Drive to search for the missing man. Police said they used bicycles, ATVs, a K9 unit and regular patrols in the search.

Authorities do not suspect the man met with foul play. They said the man appeared to have died from exposure or medical-related issues.
