York Regional police have laid an additional charge of manslaughter in connection with the 2013 death of a toddler at an unlicensed daycare in Vaughan.

Olena Panfilova, 49, of Vaughan, has been charged with manslaughter after an ongoing police investigation into the July 8, 2013 death of a two-year-old at a daycare at 343 Yellowood Cir., in the area of Highway 7 and Dufferin Street.

Officers were called to the daycare, operating inside a home, when it was reported that a two-year-old girl was found not breathing. Paramedics attempted to revive Eva Ravikovich, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Olena Panfilova and daughter Karyna Rabadanova are already facing charges of obstructing justice for allegedly interfering with the ongoing police investigation and destroying evidence.

And in February, Olena Panfilova, Ruslan Panfilova and Rabadanova were found guilty of charges under the provincial Day Nurseries Act. The family was found to have operated illegal daycares out of three neighbouring homes in Vaughan. The family is expected to be sentenced on Friday for operation of a nursery without a licence.
