Police believe a man wanted for allegedly assaulting a woman and her infant son may be in the Malvern area of Toronto.

“He is considered dangerous,” Toronto police say. “If he is located, do not approach, call 9-1-1.”

Richard Russell, 23, is wanted in connection with an alleged assault in the Neilson Road and Sheppard Avenue East area. Police responded to the call around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 15.

They say a woman in her 20s was sleeping with her infant son when a man entered her home.

“The mother argued with the man, begging him to leave, while clutching her son,” police say.

“The man became angry, grabbed her by the throat and punched her many times. He also punched the child, on the side of his head, causing swelling and bruising.”

The man threatened to kill the woman but fled after another person intervened, police say.

The suspect is described as 23 years old, 6'1 and slim. He was last seen with a goatee and was wearing light-coloured jeans, a black sweater and black shoes on the night of the incident.
