A 27-year-old man has been transported to hospital with serious burns following a two-alarm fire in the Queen Street West area early Monday morning.

Toronto Fire said the blaze began in an apartment above Jacobs Hardware, a store on Queen Street West just west of Spadina Avenue.

Paramedics assessed up to three other people for non-serious injuries related to the fire, according to Toronto Emergency Medical Services.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

Several blocks of Queen Street West, west of Spadina, were closed to traffic.

Streetcars on the 501 Queen route are diverting both ways via Spadina, King and Shaw as Toronto Fire Services investigates the incident.
