An unknown assailant repeatedly slashed a TTC operator with an edged weapon as he exited a washroom at Eglinton Station early Saturday morning, police say.

The attack happened shortly after midnight.

Police say the operator opened the washroom door and was immediately attacked.

The operator then attempted to defend himself and during the ensuing struggle police say that the suspect produced a small silver handgun.

At that point, the suspect pushed the operator back into the washroom and the operator locked the door.

The operator then waited a few moments and opened the door to find that the suspect had fled the area.

The operator was taken to hospital with minor injuries but has since been released, according to the TTC.

Police say that the operator was wearing a piece of protective clothing which helped him stave off more serious injuries.

The suspect is described as a white male, who is about six-feet tall and 180 lbs. with short shaggy brown hair and scruffy facial hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie.

It is not immediately clear whether or not the suspect was known to the operator.
