The name of a man killed in a daylight shooting in North York yesterday was released by police along with details about the suspect’s vehicle.

The incident occurred around Laura Road and Sheppard Avenue West on Wednesday. Police said they received a call for a shooting between two moving cars in the area just after 4:45 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle with two men inside. The men were in medical distress, according to police.

Both men were taken to hospital, where one of them -- 20-year-old Abdirizak Hersi -- was later pronounced dead.

The other victim, also 20, suffered from non-life-threatening injuries and was released.

Police said they are trying to track down a dark, four-door sedan last seen travelling south around Laura Road and Sheppard Avenue West.

“There was a black vehicle southbound on Laura (Road), another black vehicle overtook it on the left side and opened fire on it,” Toronto police Sgt. Rob Duthie told reporters at the scene on Wednesday evening.

He also said, contrary to initial reports, it appeared that shots were only fired from one of the vehicles.

A post-mortem was scheduled for Thursday to help police determine Hersi’s cause of death, police said.
