A man is dead and his half-brother has been arrested following an overnight stabbing in Mississauga, police say.

Peel police said they received a call around 1:30 a.m. after an altercation at an apartment on Roche Court, in the area of Erin Mills Parkway and the QEW.

The man was transported to hospital with serious stab wounds, but later died of his injuries, police said.

Police have identified the man as 49-year-old Wayne Croft of Mississauga.

According to witnesses, Croft, who was a father, was hanging out on the balcony of a fourth-floor unit with his younger half-brother prior to the stabbing. Those who knew the pair told CTV Toronto their relationship was sometimes rocky.

"We've heard about arguments and stuff," local resident Amanda Hill told CTV Toronto.

A person who was inside the apartment unit at the time of the stabbing said the argument between the two men escalated within minutes. The person, who did not want to be named, said Croft died in her arms.

Police say his half-brother, Charles Croft, 46, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

He made his first court appearance in Brampton on Saturday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Peel police.
