A 46-year-old man is facing an attempted murder charge after his wife was attacked in an Aurora home Friday night, police say.

The victim, 33, is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after she was attacked in a home on Lewis Honey Drive in Aurora, located about 30 kilometres north of Toronto.

She was found non-responsive, suffering from serious stab wounds and head trauma at around 8:15 p.m., York Regional Police said.

Authorities told CP24 that the victim’s family members, including children, were present when the attack occurred. The victim's husband was arrested at the scene.

Insp. Gary Miner said officers are currently interviewing witnesses, including family members.

“We do have family members that we are actively interviewing and they’re certainly traumatized by this too,” he said.

Mohammed Mahdi, 46, faces a charge of attempted murder.

He appeared in court on Saturday morning and has been remanded into custody. He will appear in court again on Tuesday.
