Police have confirmed that an 80-year-old man found dead in a home in Pickering, Ont., this week was murdered.

Durham Regional Police were originally called to the scene on Memory Lane at approximately 8:10 p.m Tuesday. The man’s body was found just a short walk away from his home at 1376 Everton St.

Officers said the body had “obvious signs of trauma” when they arrived at the scene.

After an autopsy conducted on Wednesday, the victim was identified as John Murray.

Police say they are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Members of the Forensics Identification Unit are also on scene to collect evidence.

Police have not yet identified a suspect in the murder.
