A 70-year-old man taken to hospital after being found at the bottom of his pool has died, police confirmed Sunday.

Police were called to a house on Alamosa Drive -- near the intersection of Finch Avenue and Leslie Street -- Saturday evening after he was found without vital signs by his wife, police said.

The man's heart was not beating when paramedics arrived, according to Toronto EMS. He was resuscitated by paramedics and taken to North York General Hospital.

However, police said the man died early Sunday morning.

A staff sergeant at 33 division said drowning was the cause of death, noting that the man had no history of a heart condition.

The name of the victim was not released.
