A 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with an early-morning weekend shooting in Mississauga that left an 18-year-old man dead.

Peel police confirm the victim was shot in the head shortly before 6 a.m. on Saturday in a plaza located on Colonial Drive, in the Winston Churchill Drive and Burnhamthorpe Road.

The victim was transported to hospital on Saturday and later succumbed to his injuries.

Police say the victim was driving in the area of The Collegeway and Colonial Drive, with three passengers in the car.

Detectives say two of the occupants exited the vehicle and the victim drove to the plaza with one remaining passenger.

When they arrived, the victim was shot in the head by the passenger in the car.

The attacker later drove the victim's car back to the area where the first occupants were located and attempted to shoot one of them.

Police confirm no other injuries were sustained during the attack.

The shooter then fled in the victim's vehicle and attempted to set the car on fire in a parking lot on Laird Road.

Anuruddha Ratwatte, of Mississauga, is charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.

He is scheduled to appear in a Brampton courthouse on Monday.
