Students at an elementary school in Etobicoke were put into a lockdown Thursday as police dealt with a security threat outside the school.

Toronto police said the lockdown at St. Josaphat Cathedral Catholic School on Forty First Street was a precautionary measure and that the students were safe at all times.

At one point, seven police vehicles were outside the school.

A man was arrested near the school and according to Const. Wendy Drummond, the suspect was never inside the building.

Emmy Szekeres Milne, spokesperson with the Toronto District Catholic School Board confirmed the threat was never inside the building but that all school doors had been locked to keep staff and students safe inside.

Police would not say why the man was arrested or what charges he possibly faces.

A woman and young girl were led away from the school by police and an officer at the scene told CP24 the matter may be related to a domestic situation.
