Commuters' prospects for a speedy drive are even worse today, as construction begins on a stretch of Lake Shore Boulevard west of Yonge Street.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes are being repaved in anticipation of the 2015 Pan-Am games.

Starting Wednesday, westbound lanes from Yonge Street to west of Rees Street, Bathurst Street to British Columbia Road, and Parkside Drive to Windermere Avenue will be closed intermittently from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every week day.

Eastbound lanes from British Columbia Road to Lower Spadina Avenue will be affected from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Crews will also work some weekends and evenings.

Construction is scheduled to continue until July 15.

Meanwhile, the shoulder lanes of the east and westbound Gardiner Expressway west of Yonge will also remain closed due to ongoing construction.
