Joe Cressy, the New Democrat candidate who unsuccessfully ran against Liberal star Adam Vaughan in the Trinity-Spadina federal byelection last month, is considering throwing his name in the race for Vaughan's old council seat.

Vaughan beat out Cressy in the June 30 federal race for the coveted Trinity-Spadina riding. It was formerly held by Olivia Chow before she stepped down in April to run in Toronto’s mayoral race.

Cressy was bested by Vaughan by approximately 20 percentage points in the byelection.

Despite the loss, however, Cressy does not plan on bowing out of politics any time soon.

In a telephone interview Tuesday afternoon, Cressy said he is "seriously" considering launching a campaign to represent the residents of Ward 20.

"I am thinking about it quite seriously," Cressy said. "(I) owe it to myself and our community to talk (about it) further."

Cressy said he is being encouraged to run for the Trinity-Spadina council seat by residents in the community. "People in our community, they've been emailing me, calling me, coming up to me at the farmers' market.”

He added that he is a supporter of Chow in her bid to unseat Ford as the mayor.

"We need not only to get rid of Ford, but get rid of his agenda."
