Toronto police are warning the public of illegal and dangerous buttocks enhancements being performed in people’s homes and hotel rooms.

According to police, some women have developed “serious medical complications” requiring hospitalization as a result of these prohibited procedures.

Toronto Police Det. Louise Farrugia said in some cases, the complications can be long-lasting.

“(The problems) are not confined to one area, it ends up moving,” Farrugia said.

She warned that, in some cases even death can result.

Police say the illegal buttock enhancements are usually arranged by email or a referral and the service, which can cost thousands of dollars, is typically paid for with cash.

Farrugia said the “injector” typically sets up a meeting either in the client’s home or a hotel room.

The detective is urging people who have undergone the procedure illegally to see a doctor.

This is not the first time Toronto police have warned the public of the dangers of illegal buttocks enhancement.

Last November, a Newmarket woman was charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm after a 28-year-old woman became ill following several buttock enhancement injections.

The woman, who paid for and received the alleged injections last summer, was taken to hospital where she had the substance removed.

Police say the accused advertised on a website called pmmainijection.com and met with clients either at their home or a hotel room.
