Emergency crews rushed to the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Highway 403 in Hamilton after a tractor-trailer rubbed against a guardrail and lost control shortly after 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Toronto-bound lanes of Highway 403 at the Lincoln Alexander Parkway were closed during the morning rush as police and emergency crews attempted to clear the scene.

Ontario Provincial Police said the truck driver suffered only minor injuries in the accident, and no one else was injured.

The tractor-trailer flipped onto its side after rubbing against a guardrail, spilling spools of thick cable onto the highway.

Officers on the scene said crews will need to cut up the metal debris left on the road because it was too heavy to lift manually.

OPP have re-opened a single eastbound lane of Highway 403 while the rest are expected to remain closed through the morning commute.
