Police have confirmed the discovery of human remains found near a bicycle and helmet that belonged to a missing Toronto woman.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Friday, police said they discovered female human remains in the bushes under the Mount Pleasant bridge, but said they could not identify the body.

The coroner and forensic officers have been called to the scene to help identify the remains.

The unidentified remains were discovered as part of a search for Catherine "Kit" Currie, a woman reported missing Aug. 14.

Acting on a tip from Crime Stoppers on Thursday, police found the bike and helmet believed to be Currie's near the intersection of Mount Pleasant Road and Bloor Street.

"We have found a deceased part," Det. Sgt. Ian McArthur told CTV Toronto on Friday.

"There is no indication at this point that it is related to our missing person."

Currie, 50, was last seen at approximately 11 p.m. in the Dufferin Street and Bloor Street West area. Police have been searching for her, and are concerned for her safety.

She is described as white, 5-foot-7 and approximately 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
