Niagara Falls Police are investigating after a bag of human remains that was found in a N.Y. park were identified as belonging to homicide victim Loretta Jo Gates.

Cpt. William Thompson of the Niagara Falls Police said the remains were discovered by a citizen in the lake at Hyde Park on Sunday morning.

The citizen pulled the bag to shore and contacted police. The remains were later identified as belonging to the 30-year-old Niagara Falls resident.

On Aug. 29, a human torso was discovered by a tourist in the Niagara River. It was later identified as belonging to Gates.

Gates, a mother of three, was last seen on the night of Aug. 25. Her family reported her missing on Sept. 4.

Gates’ death is considered a homicide and is being investigated by police in both New York State and Niagara Falls.
