Two schools in Mississauga were briefly placed under hold and secure as police searched for several suspects, at least one of whom was believed to be armed.

Officers were on the scene around 2 p.m. in the area of Eglinton Ave. and Confederation Pkwy. located near Huntington Ridge Public School and St. Matthew Elementary.

Shortly after, the schools were placed under hold and secure.

Peel police later said they were assisting Toronto police in a search for several male suspects who may have been armed. Two suspects were taken into custody and two others are still outstanding, police said.

The hold and secure order was lifted just before 2:45 p.m.
