MATHESON, Ont. - Provincial police are warning of a highway closure in northern Ontario due to a washout.

The washout -- caused by flooding in the area on Sunday evening -- has closed Highway 101 about 55 kilometres east of Matheson near the Quebec border.

Police say the affected roadway is east of the Holt Mine Project and that there is currently access to the mine but not to the Quebec border.

Motorists wishing to enter or return from Quebec must do so via routes in Kirkland Lake as no other detours are available.

Provincial police and the Ministry of Transportation are continuing to monitor the area and police say the highway will remain closed until further notice.
