The southbound lanes of a section of Highway 400 were closed for more than an hour due to several crashes in the area.

A stretch of highway from Highway 88 (Holland Street) in Bradford to Highway 9 in Kettleby closed at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said that black ice and blowing snow created dangerous driving conditions and led to "numerous collisions."

Those involved in the crashes have only minor injuries, he said.

Salt trucks and snowplows were brought in to clean up the area, and the highway reopened at noon.

A second stretch of the southbound 400 was closed on Thursday from central Parry Sound to Lake Joseph Road near Horseshoe Lake.
