Traffic along the GO Transit's train route between Milton and downtown Toronto has been suspended through morning rush hour after a person on the track was killed early Wednesday morning.

Traffic from Milton to Toronto's Union station has been put on hold as police investigate the death near Mississauga's Cooksville station.

Peel Regional Police said the incident occurred around 7 a.m. A GO Transit official said in involved a train that left Milton at 7:08 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Union Station at 8:07 a.m.

GO Transit originally delayed traffic citing debris on the tracks. About half-an-hour later, it was confirmed to be a pedestrian fatality.

Two trains were held and three more were cancelled outright. GO Transit passengers are encouraged to use the neighbouring Lakeshore west line.

An agreement with the TTC allows passengers to use their GO fare to board the subway at Kipling station.

In an unrelated incident, a CN freight train hit a car on a country road north of town, shortly after 8 a.m.

York Regional Police Sgt. Gary Phillips said no one was hurt in the collision, which happened on 19th Avenue, west of Bayview Avenue, in Richmond Hill.
