Regular service has resumed on the GO Transit Lakeshore line after one person was fatally struck by a train travelling from Oshawa to Toronto on Monday.

The incident occurred on the 11:08 train to Union Station, when a person was hit on the tracks east of Rouge Hill, near Lawrence Avenue East and Port Union Road.

Toronto Fire and emergency crews responded to the scene but the victim succumbed to their injuries.

The train was held during the investigation. Lakeshore GO passengers were initially advised that there would be delays until about 1 p.m.

The train involved in the fatality was moved around 2 p.m., Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikens said on Twitter, after sustaining some damage. Regular service resumed shortly after, with some residual delays. The afternoon commute should not be affected, Aikens said.
