A 16-year-old girl has died as a result of injuries sustained in a skiing accident at Blue Mountain Resort.

The girl was airlifted to a Toronto hospital on Tuesday after suffering life-threatening injuries during an accident on the mountain. OPP confirmed her death on Wednesday afternoon.

The Toronto Ski Club has identified her as Erika Lamb.

The club released a statement on Facebook saying it was “is deeply saddened by the news that Erika Lamb, one of our visiting racers from the Milton Heights Race Club, succumbed to the injuries she incurred while free-skiing at Blue Mountain resort.”

Officials said she was skiing on the Schuss run, an intermediate course surrounded by black and double-black diamond hills, when she hit a tree shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The girl was there to compete in the Gooch Cup, a competition hosted by the Toronto Ski Club. She was not competing at the time of the crash, and was wearing a helmet.

She was rushed to Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, before being airlifted to Toronto's Sunnybrook Hospital.
