Why: The eastbound lanes are being closed for repair work to the southern barrier walls. Officials say the repair work is the minimum amount of work required to keep the busy expressway safe until more extensive construction can be completed.

The southern barrier walls have worn out because of long-term sun exposure, which leaves it vulnerable to the damaging cycle of thawing and freezing.

Alternate routes: The city said it will work to ensure all eastbound lanes on Lake Shore Boulevard, located below the Gardiner, will remain open during rush hour. They also suggest opting for public transit.
