Ontario’s Fire Marshal is investigating after a fire at an apartment complex for people with physical disabilities left one person in a wheelchair dead.
Firefighters rushed to the home at 84 Carleton St., between Church and Jarvis Streets, late Tuesday night after a fire was reported on the ninth floor.
The address belongs to Tobias House, a social services agency that provides 24-hour support to people with physical disabilities.
The blaze was reported in a unit belonging to a person confined to a wheelchair. Firefighters said the resident was at home at the time of the fire.
The coroner was notified of the death late Tuesday night.
Toronto police said Wednesday that an investigation is ongoing.
