A baby born Thursday couldn't wait for her parents to get to the hospital, and was delivered in the back of an SUV at a busy Toronto intersection.

The anxious father was rushing to hospital while on the phone with a 911 operator. He was told he had to pull over on Don Mills Road at Esterbrooke Avenue, just north of Sheppard Avenue, at approximately 9 p.m.

Alex, who delivered the baby while on the phone with the operator, said his first instinct was to put her next to her mother's bare skin to keep her warm.

Nearby York Region paramedics rushed to the scene, but arrived after the baby was born on the back seat of the white SUV.

The mother and baby were brought by ambulance to a nearby hospital to be checked out. Both are healthy.

The little girl is the third child for Anna and Alex, who have not yet picked out a name. They told CTV Toronto that they're looking forward to sharing the story with their daughter when she gets older.
