He’s a Calgary Stampeders fan favorite, and some might say he was born and bred to be on the field.

He’s all muscle, fans cheer and roar with excitement as his strong, muscular legs dash down the field, their home team that much closer to victory.

And the football players aren’t bad either.

Fans and media alike gathered Thursday morning at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel to watch the Stamps’ Grey Cup horse strut his stuff in downtown Toronto.

The event was an attempt to recreate a memorable 1948 Grey Cup moment, when a fan rode a horse through the lobby.

And while the horse only got as far as the lobby doors on Thursday morning -- denied over safety reasons -- he's since been welcomed in by the Royal York.

In fact, kitchen staff were on hand to corral him with carrots.

"He tried to check in too early, it was all a misunderstanding," joked Royal York sales director Kerry Ann Kotani.

Earlier in the day, the equine was trotted through the Bank of Montreal, who offered up its nearby First Canadian Place lobby as a stand-in for the event.

Meanwhile, it’s looking more and more likely that the Rogers Centre will be permitting the mascot into the stadium for this Sunday’s game, after all.

Karyn Drake, the rider of the Stamps’ horse, got word Thursday morning that she would be flying into Toronto to take part in the Grey Cup festivities.

And while the official mascot, Quick Six,won’t be coming with her, Drake will be riding the horse used Thursday, an Ontario-born creature named Marty.

The horse-and-rider pair, however, will not be allowed to run along the sidelines if the Stamps score a touchdown, which is the Calgary tradition.

“The disappointing part is we won’t be able to run on the turf,” said Drake. “We will be there, cheering them on from the one corner of the field.I’m not sure which corner, but we’ll be there and we’ll wave the flag.”

Earlier in the week, Grey Cup organizers had said the Stamps’ touchdown horse would not be allowed to attend Sunday’s game.

The Calgary Stampeders will take on the Toronto Argonauts on the Argos' home turf at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday. The game will be broadcast live on TSN.
