Toronto police say they have arrested nine people, including four family members, who were allegedly involved in a fraudulent moving company.

Several police warrants were issued on Thursday morning after a months-long investigation dubbed "Operation Overhaul."

Police say that the suspects would advertise a "very low cost" for moving services, and then have potential clients sign a contract. They would also collect a deposit for their work.

However, part way through the move, the company would often quadruple the price, officers allege. The company would then hold the client's possessions as collateral until the larger-than-expected bill was paid in full, police say.

Along with the arrests, 13 moving trucks, two cars and $18,000 in cash were seized in the operation. Police warned the public about such fraudulent activities back in March.

CTV Toronto's Pat Foran reported that the suspects operating the moving company include a father, three sons and five others.

Police said that the group operated under a variety of different names, including Indo Pak and Desi Movers. The group used a total of 17 names.

Police say they were contacted by a number of victims, some of whom had heartbreaking stories. One family from Haiti said that they were left penniless after paying to get their possessions back.

In total, 160 charges were laid in the police sting.
