The family of three victims killed in a fiery crash on Highway 400 on the weekend has come forward to ask a Good Samaritan who helped them at the scene to contact them.

Last Friday, a horrific 11-vehicle crash on Hwy. 400 near Sheppard Avenue left four people dead, including three generations of the same family.

The victims were identified Tuesday as members of the Vokshi family -- 5-year-old Isabela Kuci, her mother 35-year-old Valbona Vokshi, and her grandmother, 55-year-old Xhemile Vokshi. A fourth victim was identified Tuesday by an employer as 27-year-old Maria Lipska, a recent Seneca College graduate.

At a news conference Wednesday, the Vokshi’s lawyer Jeremy Diamond read a statement on behalf of Blerta Vokshi – the child’s aunt who was driving in the car behind the family with her young son.

“What I’m able to process is that my life will never be the same again,” the statement said. “This is something I am still trying to accept. I can’t put into words the grief, tears and shock that I feel.”

“I ask you to spend that extra amount of time to tell your loved ones how much you care about them today,” the statement continued to say. “I hold on tight to every moment that I had. Life is delicate and it is often through these sorts of tragedies that we realize this fact.”

Blerta and her 2-year-old son Aron were behind the Vokshi’s vehicle when the crash occurred. She said the family were all on their way home from Canada’s Wonderland.

A second lawyer at the firm Sandra Zisckind told reporters that Blerta shattered her shoulder in the crash and was unable to attend the conference because of her injuries.

According to Zisckind, Blerta’s young son was trapped in his car seat after the crash and Blerta was unable to take him out due to her injuries.

“A Good Samaratain stopped at the side of the road and took him out of his car before the car set on fire. We would like to contact this Good Samaratian,” Zisckind said, adding the child was “relatively unscathed” because he was strapped in his car seat.

Zisckind and the family are asking the person who assisted them to come forward.

She added that the family will not pursue legal action until a full report on the circumstances surrounding the accident is released by Ontario Provincial Police.

According to police, three transport trucks were involved in the collision. The collision is believed to have been caused by the “inattentiveness” of one of the transport truck drivers and was “absolutely preventable,” Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said Monday.

Schmidt said it appears traffic on the highway had been slowing down prior to the crash and that one of the transport trucks likely did not slow down in time causing “a sequence of events.”
