The express lanes of the eastbound Gardiner Expressway east of Kipling are closed for a crash investigation, after two trucks collided east of Kipling Avenue on Thursday morning.

Police said shortly after 8 a.m., a Ford cube truck struck a Mack tractor trailer, carrying steel girders, from behind. The driver of the Ford truck suffered life-threatening injuries when a steel girder penetrated the cab of his vehicle.

While the investigation is ongoing, all traffic is being directed to the collector lanes.

Earlier in the morning, all three eastbound express lanes were blocked by the debris and emergency responders, but some traffic was allowed to pass on the left shoulder.
