NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. - The Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls has been closed as officials on both sides of the border conduct an emergency response exercise.

The exercise began at about 8:30 a.m. when a flatbed truck carrying an agricultural sprayer drove onto the bridge from Canada.

The truck, with a man and woman on board, began to emit a plume of smoke from the rear and a bus carrying a hockey team and its supporters drove through the smoke.

Both the truck and the bus carrying actors were stopped and all began to feign symptoms consistent with exposure to nerve gas.

The incident is being treated as a real event, and traffic is being diverted to the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge and the Peace Bridge.

Niagara Regional police, fire and emergency medical crews are taking part in the exercise along with the Canada Border Services Agency.
