Police are searching for a female driver after a hit-and-run in Brampton left an 83-year-old woman with serious injuries.

The elderly pedestrian was struck by a dark-coloured vehicle in the Brickyard Way and Main Street North area at approximately 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, police say. She was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the vehicle that struck her left the scene after the crash. It likely has some damage to the driver's side, including the side mirror.

Police say the vehicle was driven by a black female suspect who appeared to be in her 20s. She was last seen wearing loose braids in her hair.

Southbound traffic on Main Street has been closed as police investigate the collision.
